Rivers State Government has declared that it has no financial indebtedness to the state chapter of the Nigerian Legion.
In a statement signed by Juliana Masi, Head, Information and Public Relations Unit, Office of the Secretary to the State Government, on Sunday, the government said that Governor Siminalayi Fubara had redeemed all financial pledges made during the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance celebration.
It emphasised that there is no outstanding financial obligation owed to the legionnaires, stressing its commitment to their welfare.
The statement reads: “The Rivers State Government wishes to clarify that it has no outstanding financial obligation to the Nigerian Legion, Rivers State Chapter, in respect of donations or pledges made by the State Government.
“The State Government, under the leadership of Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has consistently recognised and supported the Nigerian Legion and remains committed to the welfare and wellbeing of ex-servicemen, veterans, widows, and families of fallen heroes.

“In further demonstration of this commitment, Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara has fully redeemed the pledge made during the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance and Celebration.”
It, however, urged members of the public to discountenance any claims that the government is owing the Legion in any form, appreciating their sacrifices to nation-building.
“The Rivers State Government, therefore, urges members of the public to disregard any claims suggesting that the State Government is indebted to the Nigerian Legion, Rivers State Chapter, in respect of its donations or commitments.
“The State Government remains committed to sustaining its support for the Nigerian Legion and will continue to back initiatives aimed at promoting the welfare, dignity, and wellbeing of veterans and their families.
“The Rivers State Government appreciates the sacrifices of our veterans and fallen heroes and will continue to honour their service and contributions to the nation,” it stated.
