The ongoing political tension in Rivers State has taken a new turn following what has been described as a symbolic message by Governor Siminalayi Fubara, widely interpreted as a direct response to the political activities of former governor Nyesom Wike and his allies.
Reacting to the development, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Amb. (Dr.) Adedipe Dauda Ewenla, said the episode has once again exposed what he termed “double standards and corner-corner politics” within the state’s political landscape.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Ewenla said political leaders who are unwilling to openly declare their political allegiance lack the transparency required for credible leadership.
“Any political actor who is unable to boldly declare where they stand is not ready for transparent leadership,” he said, urging politicians to avoid what he described as hidden loyalty and double allegiance.
Ewenla advised political actors, particularly those aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, to openly declare support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu rather than maintaining ties with the opposition PDP.
According to him, several expelled PDP members are openly supporting the president and allegedly pushing for the party not to field candidates in some states, while at the same time seeking to retain influence within the PDP despite their expulsion.
He described the situation as hypocritical and said it validated the message being sent by Governor Fubara.

The PDP chieftain reaffirmed the legitimacy of the party’s current national leadership, stating that Hon. Taminu Turaki (SAN) remains the duly elected National Chairman, while Ambassador Taofeek Arapaja remains the National Secretary.
He said both officers emerged through a valid and constitutionally recognised process at the PDP’s 2025 National Convention held in Ibadan, adding that the convention remains binding on all party members.
“No amount of propaganda or political manoeuvring can change the legitimacy of that convention,” Ewenla said.
He called on party leaders and stakeholders to protect the sanctity of the PDP and resist what he described as attempts by expelled members to destabilise the party from within.
Ewenla stressed that the PDP is bigger than any individual and that loyalty should be to the party and its constitution, not to individuals who have left the party but allegedly seek to control it indirectly.
He concluded by affirming his support for the decisions of the National Convention and his commitment to the unity, progress and democratic strength of the PDP.
