Rite Foods Limited has reiterated its commitment to sustainability and community well-being by distributing Bigi Premium Drinking Water to essential workers across key locations in Lagos, in commemoration of World Water Day (WWD) 2026.

The initiative highlights the critical importance of clean water for health, productivity, and daily survival.

The company distributed water to essential service personnel, such as traffic wardens, security agents, and street sweepers in Lagos, to support them during high-temperature conditions.

According to the company, its sustainability focus aligns with the spirit of the UN observance to promote access to safe water and environmental stewardship.

Speaking during the initiative, Dennis Aideloje, the Corporate Affairs and Sustainability Manager of Rite Foods explained that the outreach targeted essential workers exposed to the intense heat.

“Sunday, March 22, 2026, was World Water Day, and we thought it necessary to engage essential workers in our society. This period is extremely hot, and for those working under the sun throughout the day, the heat poses a serious risk. That is why we decided to go closer to them and support them,” he said.

He noted that as a family-owned Nigerian company, the organisation believes in caring for one another. “As Nigerians, we have a culture of looking out for ourselves, and that is why we are supporting essential workers in our society.”

On the scale of the initiative, he said the company planned to reach over 2,000 people across different locations in Lagos. “We are looking at about 12 cluster points across the city areas where we have a good number of people.”

He added that while the programme is currently focused on Lagos, there are plans to expand. “We started last year, and this year we decided to scale up. It is something we will continue to do.”

Comparing this year’s exercise with the previous one, he explained that the initiative had grown significantly. “We have scaled up from what we did last year. It is costing us a lot, but we are not focused on the cost. We are focused on the impact of the people benefiting and how it is affecting society.”

He added that the response from beneficiaries had been encouraging. “Everyone knows the intensity of the heat in Nigeria today, and we can already see the impact of people being happy, smiling, and thanking us for this initiative.”

The company continues to engage in sustainable business practices and environmental initiatives.

The celebration reinforces the company’s commitment to community welfare and environmental sustainability, ensuring that safe water is highlighted as a vital resource.
