Ride on shoulders of Fellows –CIPM charges new members

Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPM) has charged its newly 150 inducted members to get attached with Fellows of the Institute to gain invaluable knowledge of Human resource management if they must  grow in the profession.

In his address at the 53rd induction ceremony in Lagos, the president & Chairman of the Governing Council of the Institute, Mr. Olusegun Mojeed, admonished inductees to intentionally lay hold on the rich apron of CIPM- bred HR professionals as they progress in the HR world.

CIPM Chief who acknowledged the support of Lagos State Government in ensuring that 149 civil servants in the Admin/HR cadre were inducted, urged them to take full advantage of the support system, resources, network and learning opportunities made available to them.

“Engage with fellow members, share insights and collaborate on initiatives that will shape the future of HR especially in the public sector where Lagos State has been the pacesetter.

“Innovations in people management are continuously shaping the future of public service. As public organizations, strive to become more efficient and effective and adopt new approaches to manage your workforce.”

Mojeed charged them to wear the CIPM badge with pride and be good ambassadors of CIPM. “I enjoin you all to live the CIPM Code of Conduct and our Core Values in all your professional and personal dealings. Encapsulated in the acronym ‘SCRIPT’: S – Service; C – Creativity; R- Respect; I – Integrity; P – Professionalism; and T – Teamwork. These are not just slogans, they are vital shaping forces when we live by them.”

He assured them that the Institute would continue to explore avenues and provide platforms to deliver value for their continuous professional development. “You must remain relevant and never get lost in the crowd. I’m always keen to hear from you, your feedback, suggestions, and contributions are invaluable,” he remarked.

Speaking on the theme ‘Innovations In People Management and the Future of Public Services’ a HR expert, Mr. Toba Otusanya, encouraged his colleagues to embrace technology as he highlighted some requisite skills for public servants to imbibe.

Otusanya laid emphasis on tech-savvy approach as major skill to deliver topnotch HR services, saying “You must prioritize social responsibility, maintain autonomy, be motivated, have a collaborative mindset, be flexibility and data centricity and show emotional Intelligence and mobility.”

He charged them to embrace the trends in HR professional like: Al-based recruitment tools, employee self-support portal, mental health & wellness tools metaverse.

Others are: Chatbot for real- time response, automated employee HR data management system, digital onboarding, learning Management System (LMS) and a digitized/automated workplace.

“HR innovation can be a powerful methodology for creating a dynamic workplace. By leveraging strategies and technologies, you can optimize processes and create a more engaged workplace.

“Some of these tools include data analytics and different engagement platforms. Though innovations comes with its challenges like dearth of adequate resources and employee buy-in, however -organizations that embrace a progressive approach to HR innovation will undoubtedly enjoy the rewards of a highly productive and engaged  workforce,” he affirmed.
