The Ogun State governor, Dapo Abiodun, on Wednesday, called on traditional rulers in Yewaland in Ogun West senatorial district, to make 20,000 hectares of land available for the establishment of a rice cultivation and processing centre in the area.
Abiodun, equally said investors had been secured to bankroll the mega agro project, which according to him, is aimed at making Yewaland the rice production capital of Nigeria.
The governor, who made the call at the official inauguration of the 7KM first phase of the 21KM Imasayi-Iboro-Ayetoro Road in Yewa North Local Government Area of the state, declared that his administration would continue to ensure equitable distribution of projects across Ogun.
He noted that the mega rice project when established, would not only create many job opportunities but enhance the socio-economic development of Yewaland, appealing to the royal fathers to join hands and make the land for the project available.
On the newly inaugurated road, Abiodun explained that the 7Km being unveiled for use is the first phase, while the construction of the remaining 14KM that will terminate at Ayetoro will commence in earnest.
He added that the road was one of the roads begun by his administration during the first term, pointing out that the project would have been inaugurated earlier but for the electioneering, reiterating his administration’s commitment towards the delivery of infrastructural projects in all the three senatorial districts of the state.
The governor, who flagged off the construction of the second phase of the Imasayi-Iboro-Ayetoro, disclosed that his administration would also commence work on the reconstruction of Ita-Oshin-Imasayi road, which according to him is a federal road.
Earlier in his remarks, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Works and Infrastructure, Ade Akinsanya, said that the road which was in bad shape for over five decades, would enhance the socio-economic development of the area.
He added that the road would also mitigate flooding, while transportation of agric produce and security would also be improved along the axis.
“The road was in bad shape before now. It will mitigate flooding. It will enhance transportation of agric produce and it will improve the security of the area. This is one of the ongoing road projects in Yewaland and this reconstructed road will boost the economic development of this area”, Akinsanya submitted.
In their respective remarks, the Olu of Imasayi, Oba Lukman Kuoye and Aboro of Iboro, Oba Abayomi Daniel Salako, hailed the construction of the road which according to them, was done by the government of the defunct Western Region, noting that all the traditional rulers in Yewaland were all concerned about the development of the area and not about superiority or ownership of land.
