The Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the 19 Northern States and the Federal Capital Territory, Reverend Yakubu Pam, has urged Christians to remain steadfast in faith, unity and service as the New Year 2026 begins.

In his New Year message, Reverend Pam expressed gratitude to God for His sustaining mercy throughout the past year, despite the nation’s economic hardship, insecurity and social uncertainty.

He noted that the Church continued to pray, serve communities, comfort the afflicted and proclaim hope, describing the preservation of lives and the strengthening of communities as clear testimonies of God’s grace.

The CAN Chairman reminded Christians in Northern Nigeria that, while they are citizens of heaven, they must remain actively engaged in addressing the social, economic, moral and spiritual challenges confronting the nation. He described Nigeria as a land in need of healing on all fronts.

Reverend Pam called on believers to persevere in prayer amid insecurity, unemployment, rising living costs and communal tensions. He encouraged Christians to speak the truth with wisdom, promote peace and integrity, resist despair and reject hatred in all its forms.

He also reaffirmed prayers for leaders at all levels of government, calling for leadership rooted in justice, equity, accountability and respect for the sanctity of human life. According to him, sustainable national renewal must be driven by moral responsibility and good governance, not policies alone.

The CAN Chairman further urged deeper unity among Christians across denominations, encouraging believers to stand together in prayer, service and advocacy.

He emphasised that Christians should be known for love that heals divisions, hope that uplifts communities and faith expressed through selfless service.

Reverend Pam encouraged Christians not to lose heart or surrender their moral voice in the year ahead, expressing confidence that God remains at work in the nation.

He cited the biblical passage, “Arise, shine; for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord is risen upon you.”

He concluded with prayers for wisdom, courage and grace for God’s people, asking for strength for the Church in Northern Nigeria and for healing, justice and renewed hope across the nation, while wishing Nigerians a peaceful and blessed New Year.
