Augusta Amos, a mother of three, interviewed at PHCC, Shamaki Kalarin in Kaltungo said, “I am happy to see that the government is making sure our children are protected from these diseases. The Gombe State Government has been working in collaboration with UNICEF and other international organizations to improve the health outcomes of its residents. With a focus on eradicating polio and other diseases. According to the Local Government Immunization Officer (LIO) in Kaltungo, Yakubu Epeso, the partnership between the state government and donor agencies is paying off.

He disclosed that the technical expertise and support provided by UNICEF has been crucial in organizing the campaign and ensuring that they reach even the most remote areas of the LGA.

The LIO explained that the immunization drive, which involved door-to-door vaccination, has been far reaching in ensuring that every child receives protection against poliovirus, measles, and other dangerous diseases. “Our uptake is very good several families have been educated and sensitized on the importance of immunization for the well-being of their children.

We only have one community with the issue noncompliance and we are employing the help and buy-in of traditional and religious leaders in the area to address the challenge. However the state government should more in mobilising stakeholders to completely eliminate the issue of noncompliance,” the LIO stated.
