House of Representatives Minority Caucus and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) caucus have disowned the Coalition of Opposition Lawmakers.

The caucus, in a statement by its leaders, including Kingsley Chinda, minority leader, Ali Madaki, deputy leader; Ali Isah J.C., minority whip and George Ozodinobi, deputy minority whip, said the Coalition of Opposition Lawmakers was not known to the parliament.

The opposition leaders, apparently reacting to a press briefing by the spokesman of the Coalition of Opposition Lawmakers, Ikenga Ugochinyere, and five others, on Monday, said their demands did not represent the position of the minority caucus.

The Ugochinyere group had demanded immediate resignation of the acting National Chairman of PDP, Umar Damagum, for alleged imposition of caretaker committees on the Rivers and 10 state chapters of the opposition party.

Nevertheless, the minority leadership said: “The said coalition of lawmakers, led by Ugochinyere is unknown to the parliament and both caucuses condemn in totality the absurd move, uncouth and unparliamentary language of the group.

“The public should take note that such a coalition is unknown to parliament and its demand does not represent that of the minority parties.

“The said lawmakers should desist from further misinformation of the public and be more honourable in their conduct.”
