Renewable energy: Nigeria requires $4billion to go fully green by 2050, says DG

The Director General, Energy Commission of Nigeria, ECN, Abdullahi Mustapha has stated that Nigeria require four billion dollars to be fully green by 2050.
Barr Mustapha made this disclosure in Abuja, on Friday at a press conference jointly organised by the agency’s press department and Green Sea Energy Limited to address the importance of clean and renewable energy and energy efficiency in the country.
He explained that Nigeria will create enabling environment for investors to strive adding that no country depend on its resources to create renewable energy plant generators.
“For Nigeria to go fully green by 2050, we require about four billion dollars to invest in energy generation, We can’t do that with the money from our pockets so we will do it by encouraging investors into the sector through making plans and policies that are inviting.
He added that the commission is committed to driving positive change in the energy landscape of the nation and promoting of sustainable energy practices for a cleaner and greener future.
Barr Mustapha stressed that Nigeria, as a nation is rich in diverse energy resources and has a unique opportunity to lead the transition towards clean and renewable energy solutions.
“The promotion of energy efficiency practices and the adoption of sustainable energy sources are crucial steps in combating climate change, ensuring energy security, and fostering economic growth” he added
He explained that the essence of the campaign, was to raise awareness among the public and key stakeholders about the benefits and importance of clean and renewable energy sources.
“To promote energy efficiency measures to reduce energy consumption, lower costs, and minimize environmental impact.To encourage investment in renewable energy projects and technologies to diversify the energy mix and drive sustainable development.To engage with communities and local authorities to implement practical solutions for clean energy adoption and energy conservation” he noted
