Mariam Masirey, the 3rd wife of a reputable Islamic scholar in Kano State, Alhaji Balarabe Yahaya, and her alleged lover, Taibat Hassan, the first daughter of the Chief Imam of Alamamiya Mosque, Kano, Alhaji Umar Abdulkarim, were caught in the bed fondling themselves.
Mariam, a mother of one, has allegedly been leading a promiscuous lifestyle as a single lady and known for not obeying the Islamic dressing code as a married woman.
The 32-year-old Mariam was also accused of consuming alcoholic drinks in large quantities, which is not permitted by Islamic faith, describing her childhood as troublesome.
It was learnt that Mariam and her partner allegedly committed the same-sex crime earlier on January 14, 2023 against the Federal Republic of Nigeria Criminal Code Act that proscribes such act.
Again, on this day, Mariam and Taibat were caught in the bed performing an act which was widely believed to be lesbianism, even when both knew the consequences of the act.
According to an eyewitness simply identified as Rukaiya, for fear of victimisation and harassment, this happened in the mid-day when many people had gone out.
The eyewitness said she has been suspicious of them each time they stay together, saying that each time Taibat visited Mariam, both of them would always stay behind closed doors alone in Mariam’s room.
She noted that sometimes, when they stay outside, they will sit in such a way that their body will be touching each other.
The source said, “In several occasions, I have noticed that whenever Taibat comes around, Mariam will be in the room with her and will not come out until she leaves. I have also wondered what connection the two of them have being married and single.
“Even when Mariam is outside, she will enter the room in excitement whenever she sees her friend. Also, the kind of things they discuss sometimes will make you wonder until that fateful day.
“I live three buildings away but we all used to stay together and that was why I wasn’t surprised by the development. I was alerted by the head wife’s conversation with them.
“So that day, Taibat came, and they were both in the room. After some time, they started moaning in an unusual way. Hearing that, the most elderly wife went to know what the noise was all about and found them in a compromised manner.
“Though they quickly adjusted themselves, according to the head wife, when unexpectedly she opened the door, but it was obvious that something suggestive was happening between them. The head wife tried to find out what was happening but they said nothing was happening, only that they were playing.
“She confronted them and threatened to report her co-wife to their husband, but knowing what will befall her if her husband gets to know what she has been accused of by the head wife, she unnoticeably disappeared into the thin air.
“As it stands now, nobody could tell her whereabouts now. She knew she was going to face the Sharia court and may be stoned to death, according to the Sharia code.”
Speaking further, another witness, Azizat said: “Sometimes, it is difficult to punish offenders whose parents or family are influential. The woman has run away and if it were to be a poor man’s wife or daughter, they would find her and execute her.
“This is what we see in this country, those who are highly placed get away with crimes but those who are lowly placed also bear the brunt of the law. I am sure that when she returns, she will still be accepted or she may decide not to come back again.
