The Federal Government has released an additional N4.04 billion to settle severance benefits owed to 600 former employees of the defunct Nigeria Airways Limited.
The latest disbursement, covering the 10th and 11th batches of beneficiaries, follows the N18 billion released in September 2026 to pay 2,700 former workers covered by the first nine batches. In a statement on Monday, Maryann Duke, Senior Special Assistant on Communications and Press Secretary to the Minister of Finance, said the latest release was part of the government’s efforts to clear outstanding severance obligations to eligible former employees.
The statement put the gross severance benefits for the 600 beneficiaries at N4.251 billion, with deductions of N212.55 million, leaving a net payment of N4.038 billion.
“Payment details for Batches 010 and 011 are as follows: Number of beneficiaries: 600, total gross severance benefits N4,251,043,000.19, deductions N212,552,150.01, total net amount released for payment N4,038,490,850.18,” the statement said.
According to the ministry, payments are being processed in batches following the verification of beneficiaries and their records to ensure that approved entitlements reach the rightful recipients.
It said the government recognised the prolonged wait endured by former employees and their families, adding that efforts were ongoing to resolve legitimate outstanding claims through an orderly and transparent process.
The ministry also said the verification procedures were necessary to protect public funds while ensuring that eligible beneficiaries received their approved entitlements.
It reaffirmed the government’s commitment to implementing approved obligations in line with established procedures and applicable payment processes.
