Udinese have received a boost ahead of the new season after Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye returned to full training following a spell on the sidelines with a shoulder injury.
The 26-year-old had been limited to individual sessions in recent weeks and missed all five of Udinese’s pre-season friendlies as the club carefully managed his recovery.
His return to group training marks a major step forward for Bianconeri coach Kosta Runjaic, while it also comes as welcome news for Nigeria boss Eric Chelle ahead of next month’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Madagascar and Guinea Bissau.
Okoye featured from the start in Nigeria’s summer friendlies against Poland and Portugal, earning rave reviews for his performances despite conceding three goals across both fixtures.
Other News
There were earlier concerns that the former Watford and Sparta Rotterdam shot-stopper could be sidelined for the opening weeks of the season.
According to Il Gazzettino, via mondoudinese, Okoye has resumed training with his teammates, although Udinese’s medical staff are taking a cautious approach.
Udinese are determined not to rush his comeback and will closely monitor his workload over the coming days.
Udinese hope to have Okoye fully fit for either their Coppa Italia clash with Padova or the opening Serie A match against Como.
