Ramadan: First Lady launches welfare package for 16,000 indigent residents

Zamfara first lady – Lawal

Zamfara State First Lady, Hajiya Huriyya Lawal, has launched a Ramadan and Sallah welfare package for orphans and vulnerable residents across Zamfara.

Speaking in Gusau at the weekend, Mrs Lawal said 16,000 screened beneficiaries would each receive a 25kg bag of rice, ₦20,000 and clothing materials.

She said the distribution covered the state’s 19 Emirate Councils, targeting orphans, widows and other families in need.

Mrs Lawal reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving vulnerable citizens’ welfare.

She noted previous initiatives included marriage support for female orphans and business grants to promote self-reliance.

The governor’s wife commended the Zakat and Endorsement Board for “impacting the less privileged” and urged beneficiaries to use the support responsibly.

The programme forms part of the administration’s efforts to reduce hardship and encourage self-reliance.

Executive Secretary of the board, Alhaji Habib-Muhammad Balarabe, described the event as “a significant initiative” to support vulnerable groups.
