Princess Florence Ita-Giwa, former Special Adviser on National Assembly Matters to former president, Olusegun Obasanjo, has called for unity and support for Governor Bassey Edet Otu.
Speaking against the backdrop of seeming distractions aimed at undermining the achievements of Governor Otu, She stressed the importance of allowing the administration to fulfill his “people’s first” promise, even as she commended the visible progress made in just one and a half years of his administration.
Reflecting on the hard-fought battle that brought power back to the South in 2023, Ita-Giwa reminded her fellow Cross Riverians of the resilience and commitment that characterised their struggle. She pointed out that the return of power was not merely a gift but the result of collective efforts and sacrifices made by the people. In her view, it is now imperative to protect the gains made and to continue fostering an environment of growth and prosperity for the state.
Ita-Giwa underscored the significance of mutual respect between political officeholders and the governor, asserting that collaboration is essential for the success of any initiative. Drawing from her own experience as the first Deputy Minority Leader in the Senate, she recounted how she maintained a respectful and productive relationship with former Governor Donald Duke, despite their differing political affiliations. This spirit of cooperation, she argued, should be the guiding principle for all leaders in Cross River State.
The former senator made a passionate plea for all political leaders, regardless of their posts or locations, to rally behind Governor Otu. She stressed that the progress achieved thus far should be built upon through collective efforts, urging lawmakers and other officials to work closely with the governor to ensure the implementation of policies that benefit the entire state. “Leadership demands humility and cooperation—we must give honour to whom honour is due,” Ita-Giwa stated, reinforcing her belief in the necessity of respect within the political landscape.
She also highlighted the long-term vision of the ‘Back to South’ agenda, which she described as an eight-year mission for Governor Otu. The agenda is already yielding unprecedented growth and prosperity, and she encouraged all stakeholders to remain focused and committed to seeing it through. “Let us stay united and dedicated to this cause,” she implored, pointing out that only through collective action can the state reach its full potential.
