Queensland Academy’s pride as a citadel of art is on the front burner as it prepares for another art exhibition at its premises on Ebem Oha Street, Okota, Lagos.
On display are eye-catching artworks showcasing juvenile creativity in varying forms of visual arts. These include an arresting collage by Ekhagbai Gerald, forged out of recycled items such as straws, bottles and plywood, a mixed media piece by Chukwu Ebube that depicts fishes of giggly disc eyes on cardboards––a work about saving earth’s near-extinct species––and Beauty of Labour, a collage by Ifunanya Nwakunathat is an assemblage on cardboard, of glue, sawdust and turban, depicting toiling African women, and extolling the virtue of the industry of women of yore.
Coordinator of the Art Department, Osasame Noserime, upbeat about the school continuing the art winning streak, draws inspiration from an illustrious precedent set by one of the school’s alumni.
“One of us, Omoiyola Ayomikun, got a Lagos State Centenary scholarship. She had been to Aso Rock, had a handshake with President Jonathan and visited the Obama Foundation where she had the opportunity of sitting at the round table with Obama.”
