Protests by ad hoc staff engaged by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC and shortage of election materials distrupted yesterday’s elections at Ogudu and Ojota axis of Kosofe council area of Lagos
Sunday Sun correspondent who visited the Registration Area Centre (RAC), located in Anglican Primary school, Ogudu, reported that INEC ad hoc staff protested non payment of their allowance, just as party agents raised the alarm over shortage of ballot papers.
The development sparked the fear that about 55, 000 eligible voters in the area might be denied the opportunity of exercising their civic rights.
According to one of the voters, Mrs. Comfort Oguntoyinbo, the shortage of election materials and the protest by ad hoc staff was responsible for the delay experienced in area as election was said not to have commenced as at 12.20pm.
A staff of the electoral commission confirmed to Sunday Sun that there were discrepancies in voting materials and that following the development, political leaders and agents agreed that voting should be delayed until the issue was sorted out.
He said about 900 ballot papers were missing. In all, our reporter learnt that 84 polling units were affected by the development.
