FOLLOWING the judgment of a Federal High Court in Abuja, which sacked Abia governor, Okezie Ikpeazu for presenting false tax information to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), a group of Abia State-born professionals under the auspices of Professionals in Politics (PIP), has commended the judiciary for being the last hope of the common man, noting that the verdict of the court is good for Nigeria’s democracy.
According to the spokesman of the body, Mazi Kelvin Anyim, the era of unethical and uncivilised acts in the Nigerian polity is over, noting that the President Buhari-led Federal Government has zero tolerance for corruption.
In a statement made available to the media yesterday, Anyim said, “with the High Court judgement that sacked Mr. Ikpeazu as governor of Abia State, we are indeed convinced that the Nigerian judiciary is made up of credible personalities, who are committed to delivering fair judgments without bias.
“The decision of the court is a testament that justice can be delayed but cannot be denied
“It is saddening, disgraceful and regretful that Mr. Ikpeazu, who had served in different capacities in the public sector, out of desperation to rule Abia State can engage in such a fraudulent behaviour.
“We wish to advise Nigerian politicians to play the game by the rule”.
The group seized the opportunity to express confidence in the capacity of Chief Uche Ogah in piloting the affairs of Abia State, noting that the businessman-cum politician has passion for the people, which is evident in his philanthropic gestures across the 17 local government areas of Abia State.
Anyim also urged the National Assembly to legislate laws to abolish security votes for state governors, noting that the funds end up in private pockets.
