head of the Celestial Church of Christ, Rev. Kayode Owodunni, has identified pride as the main cause of the succession crisis in the church.
Owodunni revealed this at the church’s International headquarters, Ijeshatedo, Lagos, during the 70th Founder’s Day celebration. He said pride creeped into the church when the struggle for leadership started.
“Under all circumstances, pride destroys whether in the church or elsewhere. Oshoffa appointed a successor during his life time, who is the one speaking to you now, and the hierarchy of the church knew about it. It is the ‘spirit of why not me’ that is causing the problem. The spirit of God is humility. Humility promotes while pride destroys. Oshoffa, in his life, was known as a humble man.”
Owodunni counselled humility for the warring faction for the church to move forward.
On activities lined up for the celebration, he said it is just to reflect and give thanks to God for saving the church and added that they do not believe in jamboree, thus “only full church services will hold on the Septemerb 29, 2017 and October 1, 2017, at the headquarters, to mark the founder’s day.”
He urged Nigerians to be patient with President Muhammadu Buhari, saying “Give Buhari some time. He’s been doing a lot. What is happening is not peculiar to Nigeria. Every country has its own problem. He will succeed. Nigeria will live.”
