Cardinal John Onaiyekan, Catholic Bishop Emeritus of Abuja has enjoined Nigerians to use this Christmas season to share what they have with their friends and neighbours because giving is what characterises the message of Christmas.
He made this known during the 2023 ‘Carol Night of Nine Lessons and songs organised by the Director/Chief Executive Officer of Prezzo Shed Investments Ltd, Mr Emmanuel Njoku yesterday in Abuja.
According to the Catholic Bishop, “People should resist the temptation of monopolizing Jesus Christ this Christmas season but they should share the joy of Christmas with everyone.
“If you can help one or two persons do just that, because we must all do what we can to reach out to our neighbours this season.”
In his remarks, Njoku who expressed delight for hosting the event said “The Carol Night is an annual worship programme designed to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ and re-echo the message of love for our neighbours and humanity.
“Christmas represents giving and love, which is what God did for us by giving us His son, Jesus Christ, and we must also demonstrate this love to others,” he said.
It was indeed a night of worship and thanksgiving to God as various choir, including Abuja Choral Ensemble, entertained guests with various Christmas songs, such as the popular ‘’Twelve Days of Christmas among others.” which had clerics and Christian faithfuls from different denominations in attendance.
Highpoint of the event was the cutting of the Christmas cake by the host and his family, flanked by clerics and other participants.
