From Charity Nwakaudu, Abuja
Former governorship candidate of Action Alliance, Ugwumba Uche Nwosu, who was the chief of staff to former Imo State governor, Rochas Okorocha, has said that power, pressure and integrity remain the backbone of effective governance and sustainable leadership.
Nwosu stated this while speaking at the 2025 Emerging Leaders Conference, themed, “Navigating Power, Pressure, and Integrity in Governance.”
He described leadership in public service as a heavy responsibility, stressing that true leadership is not about titles or positions, but about character, consistency and courage, as well as a strong connection with the people, especially the youth.
Speaking on power, Nwosu said it should be used as a tool for development, not personal privilege, noting that power is a public trust that must be exercised with humility and accountability.
According to him, leaders are not judged by how much power they control, but by how responsibly they use it to serve the people.

On pressure, he explained that political, social and economic pressures are unavoidable in leadership, adding that the ability to remain calm and principled during difficult moments separates real leaders from mere managers.
He said leaders must rely on facts and values and must have the courage to take tough but necessary decisions, even when such decisions are unpopular.
Nwosu emphasised that integrity is the foundation of leadership, warning that leadership collapses once integrity is compromised. He added that Africa’s progress depends on leaders who see integrity as a moral duty, not an option.
The former chief of staff also highlighted the Ugwumba Leadership Centre, which he founded to bridge leadership gaps across Africa, particularly among youths and women.
He said the centre runs programmes such as the Ugwumba Leadership Development Programme, Ugwumba Enterprise Challenge and SkillUp Programme, which have empowered many young Nigerians, producing entrepreneurs, innovators and community leaders.
Nwosu urged emerging leaders to embrace purpose, discipline and integrity as core values needed to transform Africa.
He thanked the organisers of the Emerging Leaders Conference for their dedication to leadership development, expressing optimism that joint efforts would help secure a better future for the continent
