Polls: lady, 17 others arrested over electoral violence in Lagos

A middle aged women is among 17 persons arrested during the  Saturday’s Governorship and State House of Assembly elections in Lagos  for  alleged  involvement in electoral violence in the state.
Lagos  State Police Public Relations Officers (PPRO) SP Benjamin Hundeyin, who confirmed the arrest on Sunday said 21 different cases of violence were received when election was going on.
Hundeyin, said some of those arrested were involved in the attack on officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission ( INEC) and the vandalisation of ballot boxes.
He said others were involved in the snatching of ballot boxes and also in possession of fake INEC Identification cards and, conduct likely to cause breach of peace,.
He said a few others were involved in assault and Illegal possession of firearm.
According to him,   the 17 suspects have been taken to the  State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti-Yaba for discreet investigation.
“Those found culpable of electoral offences will be handed over to the  INEC for prosecution, while those involved in other criminal offences will be charge to court by the police” he added.
