One policeman was killed and a vehicle burnt in the Ishieke police checkpoint, Ebonyi local government area of Ebonyi State when gunmen attacked the checkpoint.
The incident occurred on the ever-busy Abakaliki/Enugu Expressway, on Thursday morning.
Shortly after the incident, policemen cordoned the junction and thoroughly checked vehicles heading towards Enugu and from Abakaliki while businesses were halted at the commercial motor park around the area
Also, shops were closed as the area was completely deserted without any vehicle loading in the park.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Joshua Ukandu confirmed the incident.
“It’s only a vehicle that was burnt but I am preparing a statement on the incident. Only a policeman died in the attack,” he stated.
