The Delta State Police Command has arrested five suspected armed robbers and kidnappers and recovered two firearms, six live cartridges and other items during separate operations in Ughelli North and Ika South Local Government Areas of the state.

The arrests followed intelligence-led operations conducted by operatives of the Commissioner of Police Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT) and the Special Anti-Kidnapping Unit (SAKU) on October 15 and 16, 2026.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, saying the operations were part of sustained efforts to dismantle criminal networks and curb armed robbery and kidnapping across the state.

According to Edafe, operatives of CP-SAT, acting on credible intelligence, stormed Ujode community in Ughelli North Local Government Area on October 16 and arrested a 29-year-old suspect, Thankgod Ejakpomewhe.

He said the suspect was believed to be a member of an armed robbery syndicate allegedly terrorising residents of the area.

A search conducted during the operation led to the recovery of a locally made long gun and one live cartridge, while other suspected members of the gang reportedly escaped.

In a separate operation on October 15, operatives of SAKU, Ubuluku, raided a suspected criminal hideout in Alisimen community, Ika South Local Government Area, where four suspects were arrested.

The suspects were identified as Okwunzuwa Rubben, 28; John Onyeka, 42; Uzoma Ifeyinwa, 20; and Osas Atoe, 22.

Items recovered during the raid included a double-barrelled pump-action gun, five live cartridges, a laptop computer, six mobile phones, a camouflage cap and a jacket.

Edafe said investigations were ongoing to establish the suspects’ alleged involvement in criminal activities, adding that efforts had been intensified to track down fleeing members of the suspected armed robbery syndicate in Ujode.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Samuel Erale, commended the operatives for their diligence and professionalism, assuring residents that the command would sustain its crackdown on kidnapping, armed robbery and the unlawful possession of firearms.

He warned criminal elements to abandon their activities or face decisive police action.

E rale also appealed to members of the public to support the police with credible and timely information that could assist in identifying criminal hideouts, apprehending suspects and preventing violent crimes.
