The Enugu State Police Command has smashed criminal gangs operating in different parts of the state, arresting six suspects for alleged involvement in robbery, fraud, and cult-related activities.
The suspects, according to the Command, were arrested in separate, intelligence-led operations between August 25 and September 4, 2025.
Items recovered from them include two minibuses, a motorcycle, 11 ATM cards, a laptop, and other incriminating materials.
Police Public Relations Officer, Daniel Ndukwe, who disclosed this in a statement yesterday, said operatives of the Anti-Cultism Tactical Squad arrested three men identified as John Joseph, also known as “Musa” (34), Kingsley Essien Ubong (40), and Ogbonna Kelvin (43).
He explained that their arrest followed the confession of one Chinedu Onwuka, who had earlier been arrested in May for a similar offense, arraigned, and remanded in prison.
“Recovered from them were one Daihatsu Hijet minibus with chassis number S321V 0112161, and a Kymstone motorcycle with chassis number LKIPCJL1XM1000263. Both vehicles had no registration or engine numbers,” the police spokesman said.
In a separate incident, Ndukwe said that on September 2, at about 11:43 a.m., operatives arrested one Sunday Ebuka Egbuaba (38), alleged to be a member of the Junior Vikings Confraternity.

“A search conducted at his residence led to the recovery of one HP laptop suspected to have been stolen from a male victim. His arrest followed the confession of one Nnaji Ifeanyi, 23, a Black Axe member who is already under investigation for conspiracy, burglary, stealing, and cultism,” he revealed.
Similarly, operatives attached to the Nsukka Urban Division rescued and arrested one Friday Nwaomege (25) from a mob along Enugu Road, Nsukka, on August 30.
“Friday and two other accomplices, now at large, had snatched a bank ATM card from a male victim. The mob descended on him before our men intervened. He sustained injuries, was treated, and is now in custody,” the statement noted.
Recovered from him were 12 ATM cards belonging to different banks, as well as an ENTRACO-branded Daihatsu Hijet minibus (registration number ENU 902 YS, Fleet No. R-04/12309) allegedly used for the operation. The vehicle was damaged by the mob before the police secured it.
Ndukwe assured that efforts are ongoing to apprehend fleeing gang members and recover more exhibits.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Bitrus Giwa, has pledged that the Command will not relent in its efforts to combat crime in the state.
“We remain committed to ridding Enugu State of crimes and criminal elements. I urge residents to remain law-abiding, vigilant, and supportive of the police in our quest to ensure the safety and security of all,” CP Giwa stated.
The police said the suspects would be charged in court once investigations are concluded.
