Rivers State Police Command said it has rescued a suspect believed to be involved in the gruesome murder of Bako Angbashim, a Superintendent of Police and Divisional Police Officer in-charge of Ahoada Police Division in the state.
State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Grace Iringe-Koko, a Superintendent of Police (SP), disclosed this yesterday.
She said that on Monday, operatives of the command at about 19:43 hours received an actionable information, that in Edoaha community in Ahoada East Local Government Area, one of the suspects who brutally killed Angbashim was about to be lynched by a mob.
According to the PPRO, a team of policemen swiftly to action to rescue the suspect who was about to be burnt with a tyre on his neck.
“He was rescued and brought to the station where he made a useful statement.’
The command spokesperson disclosed that the suspect has was later transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further interrogation.
She said Police’s discreet investigation is to arrest the fleeing leader of the killer gang, his members and to recover their weapons.
The PPRO disclosed: “He was later transferred to SCID for discreet investigation with a view to apprehend the fleeing kingpin, his gang members, and to recover their operational weapons.
It would be recalled that the Rivers State Governor, Siminialayi Fubara, had declared the suspected killers of DPO, SP Angbashim, wanted.
He also placed N100 million bounty on the gang leader, who was identified as Gift, popularly known as 2Baba.
