The Cross River State Police Command has denied reports that two men died after attacking each other with machetes in one of the communities in the state.

The response follows reports that two men in Akpap Okoyong community in Odukpani Local Government Area of the state died after attacking each other with machetes over a missing bunch of plantain.

ASASP Sunday Eitokpah, the state Police Public Relations Officer, denied that the command confirmed the deaths in a statement made available in Calabar. According to him, “The Command categorically denies the claim that it confirmed the incident. No officer, including the Police Public Relations Officer, was contacted or authorised to confirm such information.

“While the command has received informal reports that an incident may have occurred in the community, official confirmation can only follow a formal report and preliminary investigation, neither of which has taken place at the time of publication,” he said.

He added that the command remains committed to professionalism, accuracy, and responsible communication.
