The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a suspected female Kidnapper and recovered a snatched Toyota Highlander SUV .
The female suspect is also linked to a case armed robbery in Ogidi, Idemili North Local Government of the state.
According to Anambra state Police Public Relations Officer(PPRO)SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the operation was carried out in the early hours of October 27,2025, by operatives attached to the 3-3 Police Station in collaboration with Agunechemba Security, Nkwelle-Ezunaka Unit.
Ikenga said: “The team arrested one Okonkwo Onyinye, 23, who is a female accomplice in a reported case of armed robbery and kidnap incident. The joint security team also recovered the snatched Toyota Highlander SUV belonging to the victim in Ogidi.”
He explained that preliminary investigation revealed how the victim was double-crossed by a five-man armed gang operating in a Toyota Corolla at Nkwelle GRA Gate.
“The suspects forced the victim into the boot of his vehicle and drove him to a bush in Umuoji Town, where they dispossessed him of his phone and transferred the sum of ₦24,000,000 from his account before abandoning him and fleeing with the vehicle,” the police spokesperson disclosed.
Ikenga further said that following the report, the Joint Security Team acted on technologically-driven intelligence, which traced the movement of the suspects to Nawfia and later to Ogidi, where the hoodlums engaged the operatives in a gun duel.
“The armed men opened sporadic fire on our operatives but fled the scene when overwhelmed. The recovered Toyota Highlander, white in colour with registration number RBC 649 CN, has since been taken into custody. The female suspect was apprehended at the scene and is currently assisting detectives with valuable information that will aid the arrest of other fleeing members of the gang,” he added.
The PPRO also confirmed that security operations have been intensified across the state ahead of the Anambra Governorship Election slated for November 8, 2025.
“The Command under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of all residents. We are deploying more patrols and intelligence resources to sustain the current momentum against criminal elements,” Ikenga assured.
He called on the public to remain law-abiding and continue to cooperate with law enforcement agencies by reporting suspicious activities promptly.
“The safety of Anambra residents remains our utmost priority,” the PPRO affirmed.
