Rivers State Police command said it raided the camp of ‘General Danger’, a notorious cultist in Ahoada and neutralized a member of the group, as well as recovered assorted arms and ammunition.
State Commissioner of Police, CP Emeka Nwonyi, made the disclosure during press briefing on Thursday, at the Police headquarters, Moscow Road, Port Harcourt.
The Commissioner of Police said the gang leader, ‘General Danger’ and ‘Double Chief’ narrowly escaped.
He said an AK 47 rifle, five magazines loaded with 51 live ammunition, GPMG live ammunition and assorted charms were recovered from the camp.
Nwonyi disclosed that operatives of C4i intelligence unit of the command, in case of kidnapping and murder, arrested a suspect that ran to Ogun State after participating in killing late Justice Azundah, Protocol Officer to Emeka Woke, ex-Chief of Staff to the immediate past governor of the state.
The Police boss said the suspect confessed to have collected N2 million before the victim was murdered.
Nwonyi further stated that on July 20, 2023, members of the same kidnap gang engaged the Police in a battle and one Uchendu Azundah was fatally wounded.
He said one pump action gun, 22 live ammunition were recovered from the scene.
In a related development, C4i intelligence unit of the Police command said it received distress call that armed robbers were operating at Ikwerre Road, and responded swiftly leading to the arrest of suspects and recovery of a snatched black SUV Jeep
Nwonyi said the suspect confessed to the crime and took Police to their hideout at Igwuruta in IKwerre LGA of the state, where two suspects were killed and a local revolver pistol was recovered.
Explaining further, CP Nwonyi said on July 15, personnel of Akpajo Police Division received distress call that red colour Toyota car with bullet holes was taken to mechanic workshop by hoodlums.
He said the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) led men of his Division to the mechanic workshop and arrested two suspects, one Azuka and another suspect.
