Police pledge to deepen community engagement in Borno

• Hold stakeholders forum to tackle security threats

The Police have promised to deepen community engagements with critical groups in Borno State  to tackle emerging security threats.

Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Zone 15  comprising of Borno and Yobe, Kenechukwu Onwuemelie gave the promise while addressing community members at a forum with critical community-based security stakeholders,yesterday ,in Maiduguri, Borno’s state capital.

Onwuemelie said the stakeholders forum was a unique organised share field experiences in security management within the state

“This forum is not just another meeting. It provides a platform for sharing field experiences in security management within the state,  discuss the distinct challenges faced by various stakeholders, figuring out immediate and long-term needs for enhancing security,” he said.

He said the engagement was necessary at a time Borno is showing remarkable resilience amid prolonged security challenges.

Borno state Commissioner of Police, Yusufu Mohammed, said that  over a decade, insurgency has left ashes of security issues in the state with some emerging crimes ,such as rape, robbery, theft and other crimes.

“It is for this reason that the police are holding this interface with  security stakeholders in Borno state,” he disclosed.

Those that attended the stakeholders forum include: land owners, leaders of Civilian Joint Task Force, Women associations, Hotel owners, National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), National Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO), Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) and Academic union of universities.
