In a decisive move to curb the rising tide of armed robbery incidents in Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, the Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Shehu Nadada orchestrated a comprehensive community policing strategy.
Concerned by the brazen attacks perpetrated by groups of young men aged between 19 to 25 years, the Commissioner mobilized both law enforcement agencies and local vigilante groups to bolster security efforts in the area.
“The collaboration between the police, vigilante groups, and members of the community was instrumental in our recent success,” noted CP Umar Shehu Nadada.
Accoding to a statement signed by the police public relations officer, DSP Ramhan Nansel sent to journalist on Saturday stressed that the collaborative approach yielded significant results on the night of April 5th, 2024, as law enforcement received intelligence regarding an ongoing armed robbery incident in the Aso pada area of Mararaba.
He said Swift action by police operatives, in tandem with vigilant community members, thwarted the criminal activity. In the ensuing operation, one suspect, identified as Ifienyichukwu Ilegalu, was neutralized, while another, Edache Joseph, aged 20, was apprehended.
DSP Ramhan Nansel, praised the valor displayed by the officers, vigilantes, and courageous civilians involved in the operation. “Their bravery exemplifies the spirit of cooperation necessary to combat crime effectively,”
Furthermore, Nansel said recovered from the apprehended suspects were two stolen phones and other incriminating items, which will serve as crucial evidence in ongoing investigations.
He assured the Nigeria Police continued support for such collaborative efforts and urged the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement to ensure the safety and security of all residents in Nasarawa State.
