The Lagos State Police Command has arrested 39 suspects for various offences in the last two weeks.
Among the suspects ,were three operators of a baby factory where young children were sold to buyers.
At a press briefing yesterday, on the Command’s achievements in the last two weeks, the state Commissioner of Police, Moshood Jimoh, said that nine persons, including three children were rescued from the baby factory.
The CP, who was represented by Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO),CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, said that the suspects were arrested for their alleged involvements in various crimes, including murder; kidnapping; armed robbery;rape;child stealing; vandalism; operation of baby factory; illegal possession of firearms, and illicit drugs.
Speaking on how detective busted the baby factory, Jimoh explained that on April 5, 2025, at about 2 p:m, credible intelligence was received that there was a baby factory at Afurugbin, Ijegun.
According to him, based on the report, detectives were quickly mobilized to the scene from where the operator, Mariam Vincent, 35 , and two others:Orie Ruth, 23,and Ujunwa Ifeanyi, 18, were arrested.
He disclosed that the following victims: Precious ,24, Magdalene ,25, Adaobi, 23, Princess, 22, Ifeanyi, 25, Amaka, 26, were rescued along with three children identified as Destiny, 7, Miracle, 5 and Success, 2.
“The operators held all of them in captivity. During interrogation, the suspects confessed to have abducted their victims in different area of the state for the purpose of running a baby factory. Investigation is in progress” he added.
Speaking further, the CP disclosed that one Charles killed himself after opening fire on three elderly men in the Badagry area of the state.
He said one suspect, Bright Sonu, who allegedly accompanied the said Charles Atideka, to the place from where he opened fire on the three elderly men has since been arrested.
Explaining how the unfortunate incident occurred, the CP said that the police in Badagry got intelligence report on April 1, 2025, at about 8.30am, of an unfortunate incident that occurred in Yovoyan Community, along Gberefu Beach, in the Badagry.
“Based on the strength of the report, a team of detectives were deployed to the area. On arrival they discovered that the said Charles had allegedly opened fire on three elderly persons namely: Muji Onilude, 75, Richard Atideka , 70 and Charity Atideka , 59.
“All victims were rushed to the Badagry General Hospital, where they were confirmed dead. The corpses have been deposited at the hospital morgue for autopsy. Meanwhile, one Bright Sonu, 33, who accompanied the prime suspect to the scene was arrested. The following day, April 2, 2025, the wanted suspect was rushed to the hospital where he was confirmed dead, while the case has been transferred to the SCID, Yaba” he added.
He explained that another ugly incident was also reported at Okokomaiko Police Station, about a man who allegedly beat his daughter to death in the area.
“Again, on April 3, 2025, at about 8am, a distress call was received at Okokomaiko Division concerning a crime that had occurred on March 26, 2025. According to the report, one Shakirat Ojo,27, was allegedly beaten to death by her father, Kamoru Ojo, who also buried the victim in a shallow grave within his compound at Afromedia , Ojo.
“Following the report, a team comprising homicide and scene of crime detectives visited the address. The shallow grave was located, and the corpse was exhumed, photographed, and taken to a public morgue for autopsy. The suspect has been arrested and is currently in police custody. Investigation is in progress” he added
