Activist lawyer, Deji Adeyanju has stated that the police have refused to grant bail to rapper Darlington Okoye, better known as Speed Darlington, despite the Federal High Court in Abuja’s bail decision issued on Monday, December 23.

The rapper has been in police custody since November 27, when he was re-arrested by Nigerian police in Owerri, Imo State.

He was first arrested in October following a petition filed against him by his colleague Burna Boy.

The singer was granted unconditional bail and the only thing needed to do was for his legal team to get the ruling to the police legal department for them to minute on it and then send it to the Force Investigation Department FID where the singer is being detained, for compliance.

The singer’s legal team has since sent the court order to the police department but is yet to get any response or compliance.

Deji Adeyanju on Thursday posted on his X account that the Nigerian police are yet to release Speed Darlington.

He wrote: “The Nigerian Police have refused to release Speed Darlington a.k.a AKPI despite the explicit order of the Federal High Court to do so. This is the highest form of disrespect to the judiciary.”
