Chief Whip of Oyo State House of Assembly, Wasiu Olafisoye Akinmoyede, representing Lagelu state constituency, is under investigation by the state police command in connection with the death of a federal lawmaker in Ibadan during the conduct of governorship and House of Assembly polls.

Temitope Olatoye (Sugar), representing Lagelu/Akinyele federal constituency was shot in the eye on Saturday afternoon by assailants, and was rushed to the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, where he was said to have died in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the hospital.

Oyo State House of Assembly Speaker, Gunju Ojo, confirmed that the House has received a letter from the police that Akinmoyede, fondly referred to as ‘Lafi’ is under investigation.

“I am not aware that he has been taken to Abuja. I am only aware that he is under investigation, but I am not sure if he is in Abuja or not,” Ojo said.

When probed further to know if the letter was of arrest, invitation or investigation, Ojo, simply responded: “Yes, we received a letter that he is under investigation. I am not aware if he has been taken to Abuja or not.”

Meanwhile, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Olugbenga Fadeyi, in a telephone conversation, could not confirm the investigation of Akinmoyede, saying he was not aware of the development.
