Police investigate NAF cadet’s death in Abia hotel swimming pool

The Abia State Police Command is investigating the death of a Nigerian Air Force cadet which occurred at the swimming pool of a popular hotel, close to the Government House, Umuahia, the Abia State capital.

This much was disclosed by the command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Maureen Chinaka.

The NAF Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) Tarmac Four cadet, who was identified as CDT Chidiebere, was reported to have died in the hotel’s swimming pool.

The victim, said to have a few months to graduate from the NDA according to a source, had gone to the hotel with friends to have fun when he decided to swim at the hotel’s swimming pool when he got drowned.

The source said the hotel’s swimming pool was under renovation when unknown to the deceased he decided to use it, but got trapped.

The young NAF cadet was said to have gone under the water at about 6:37 pm on Tuesday, only for his body to be found two hours later by men of the state Fire Service.

The young man was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia, where he was confirmed dead.
