Police intercept vehicle with weapons, ammunition in Zamfara

Zamfara State Police Command has intercepted a vehicle with four K-47 rifles, 228 rounds of live ammunition and  four magazines while on normal routine patrol in the state.

This was disclosed in a statement issued by Zamfara  state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) DSP Yazid Abubakar, he revealed that  on  September 15,  2025, at 12:30 am,  operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the command, led by ASP Bilyamin Koko, while on routine patrol along Gummi–Sokoto Road, intercepted a Toyota Corolla vehicle conveying passengers from Sokoto to Gummi.

“ Upon conducting a thorough search of the vehicle at Gambanda Godabe village,Gummi LG, the team recovered the following items, concealed inside a bag of oranges belonging to one Nasuru Dawan Jiya: Four  AK-47 rifles; 200 rounds of live PKT ammunition,28 rounds of live AK-47 ammunition and four empty AK-47 magazines,the suspect, Nasuru Dawan Jiya, confessed to transporting the arms and ammunition to bandits operating in Gurusu village.

The case is currently under  indepth investigation, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend other accomplices and dismantle the criminal network.

Commissioner of Police,  Ibrahim  Maikaba , reassured members of the public of the Command’s unwavering commitment to ridding the state of criminal elements.
