Preliminary reports indicated the incident occurred in Lagos, drawing response from the Lagos State Police Command and the Lagos State Domestic & Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA).
Facts soon emerged that the incident occurred in Ogijo, a community in Ogun State, prompting the Ogun State Police Command to take charge.
However, online reports surfaced that the rape victim had been arrested due to alleged inconsistencies in her account that suggested she fabricated the story.
But the Ogun police spokesman quickly dispelled reports of her purported arrest.
Babaseyi said, “The Ogun State Police Command states that the victim reported at Ibafo Division on Wednesday and informed officers that the alleged incident occurred in the Ogijo area. She was promptly taken for medical assessment and thereafter conveyed to Ogijo Division, being the jurisdiction where the incident reportedly happened.
“At Ogijo, it was confirmed that she was not in a stable condition to provide further details. She was immediately taken for a comprehensive medical check-up, and her health is being closely monitored, as her wellbeing remains paramount.
“At no time was the victim arrested. The Police are handling the matter professionally and urge the public to verify information through official channels before dissemination.”
