Police confirm arrest of suspect over death of gospel singer, others in Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a suspect in connection with the death of a gospel singer and three others inside a music studio in Ajah area of the state.

The lifeless bodies of the victims identified as gospel artiste Matthew Ogundele, Itunu Ogundele, Joseph Sanya, and blogger Matthew Awosanya, popularly known as JoesTv, were found inside the studio located within the HFP Shopping Complex, Abraham Adesanya axis of Ajah on Wednesday.

The victims were said to have stayed overnight after performing at a birthday praise event but later found unresponsive.

The incident has generated interest on social media, with many Nigerians urging proper investigations.

Responding, the Lagos police command spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi said the incident was initially reported at the Ajah Police Division.

She added that the case has has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, Yaba for further investigation.

She disclosed that one suspect, identified as the organiser of the event, is currently in custody.

“Investigation is ongoing, and we are awaiting the autopsy report,” Adebisi said.

Meanwhile, the police said the studio owner, Akintayo Akinbola, reported the incident.
