Police charge father, son over murder of Abuja bizman, Chinedu Eze

The Inspector General of Police (IGP) has filed a six-count charge bordering on conspiracy and culpable homicide against George Eze and Victor Nweze before a High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

The defendants were in the charge marked: FCT/HC/CR/437/2025, alleged to have unlawfully killed one Mr. Chinedu Eze by “deceiving him to drink a concoction which they knew will lead to his death’, an offences punishable under section 221, of the Penal code law of the Northern Nigeria.

The charge filed by Stanley Nwodo of the Directorate of legal services, Force headquarters, Abuja, alleged “to have on or about May 25, 2025, at Bwari, within the jurisdiction of the court, unlawfully conspire among yourselves to commit felony to wit: culpable homicide contrary to section 97 of the Penal code law of Northern Nigeria.

While George Eze is the elder brother of the deceased, the second defendant (Victor Nweze) is his son (George Eze).

In count three, the prosecution alleged that: “You George Eze and Victor Nweze on or about the May 25, 2025, within the jurisdiction of this court, did unlawfully converted to your own personal use the four stationary shops belonging to the deceased and also appointed the second defendant to be in charge of all the three shops after the deceased death and thereby committed an offences punishable under section 310 of the Penal code law of Northern Nigeria.

The prosecution equally accused them of misappropriating five Post Order Service (POS) machines belonging to the deceased, an offences punishable under section 310 of the Penal code law of Northern Nigeria.

In counts five and six of the charge, the Inspector General of Police charged the defendants for stealing a black Highlander jeep and a red Hiace bus belonging to the deceased and committed an offence under section 287 of the Penal code law of Northern Nigeria.

Meanwhile, when the case came up for trial yesterday before Justice M.S. Idris, the prosecution counsel, Stanley Nwodo informed the court that both the defence counsel and the defendants were not in court.

Consequently, the matter was adjourned to November 10 at the instance of the defendants, for continuation of trial.

The charge against the defendants followed a petition to the police by E. A. Iyede of Pelican Attorneys on behalf of the deceased family.

The petition dated January 31, 2025, chronicled the events that led to the death of Mr. Emmanuel Chinedu Eze.

It accused the defendants of orchestrating the murder of deceased and illegal possession of his properties.
