The Kano State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the killing of political commentator Ibrahim Khalil Danshagamu at his residence in Gaida Quarters, Kumbotso Local Government Area of the state.
Police spokesman, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said in a statement on Wednesday night that unknown hoodlums forcibly entered Danshagamu’s residence on September 8 and attacked him with sharp objects.
He was rushed to Murtala Muhammed Specialists Hospital, Kano, where he was confirmed dead on arrival.
Kiyawa said an intelligence-led operation led to the arrest of two suspects linked to the killing, adding that efforts were ongoing to apprehend others connected with the crime.
“Statements are being obtained and forensic analysis is in progress to establish the full facts and motive behind the attack,” he said.
Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, condoled with the deceased’s family and assured them that the command would identify, arrest and prosecute those responsible.
The suspects will be charged to court after the completion of investigations.

Kwankwaso condemns killing
Former Kano State Governor and New Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) vice-presidential candidate, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, has condemned the killing, describing it as horrific.
In a statement, Kwankwaso urged the Kano State Government to immediately set up an investigative panel to probe the incident and ensure that the perpetrators were brought to justice.
He warned that failure by the authorities to act decisively and transparently would compel an incoming NDC administration to conduct its own investigation and hold those responsible accountable.
Kwankwaso also called on the Kano and Federal Governments to protect opposition voices from threats, attacks and intimidation.
“Freedom of expression is constitutionally guaranteed to all Nigerians, and that right must be protected regardless of political affiliation,” he said.
He condoled with the family, friends and followers of the deceased and prayed that Allah grant him Jannatul Firdaus.
