The Sokoto State Police Command has arrested two suspects linked to a series of burglaries across the state capital, recovering stolen items valued in millions of naira.
The breakthrough followed a report made by one Mustapha Maikano, a resident of Mana Layout, who reported to the Unguwar Rogo Police Station on May 8, 2025, at about 6:00 p.m that unknown individuals had unlawfully entered his residence and stolen several household items including an inverter freezer, LG plasma television, a travel bag with personal effects and clothes.
Acting on a tip-off, the police apprehended a commercial tricycle rider who led them to the prime suspect, one Musa Isah of Tamaje area, Sokoto. A search of his residence led to the recovery of all items reported stolen by Maikano.
Further investigations uncovered a pilgrim box labeled with the name “Amina Muhammad Lawal” and a phone number. Police contacted the owner, who confirmed that her home in Sarda Quarters was burgled on February 12, 2025. Valuables worth an estimated ₦1.53 million were stolen during the incident.
The suspect, Musa Isah, reportedly confessed to the crime and named his accomplice and the alleged receiver of stolen goods, one Abbas Isah of Mabera area. A subsequent search at Abbas Isah’s residence revealed an extensive cache of stolen property, including 8 bags of rice, a brand new Kemage KM 4000 generator, stainless steel vacuum flask, a stabilizer, Samsung tablet, 15 male kaftans, iPhone 14 among others.
The police public relations officer in the state DSP Ahmed Rufa’i stated that the second suspect also confessed to acquiring the items through multiple burglaries across the city.
Both suspects are currently in custody and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
The police commissioner in the state Ahmed Musa, commended the officers involved in the operation for their professionalism and dedication. He urged residents to support security efforts by providing credible information to help build a safer Sokoto.
