The Abia State Police Police Command has arrested a 22-year-old youth, Chidera Okorie, for allegedly robbing unsuspecting members of the public with a fake gun.
The suspect was arrested at Obinolu Ngodo Isuochi, Umunneochi Local Government Area (LGA) of Abia State, according to a statement signed by the Spokesperson of the Abia State Police Command, DSP Maureen Chinaka.
Chinaka explained that operatives of Isuochi Division Police Headquarters who leveraged actionable intelligence on 05/07/2026, apprehended the suspect, Chidera Okorie.
“The suspect is known to be habitually robbing unsuspecting members of the public using a stainless lighter designed to resemble a pistol, thereby instilling fear in his victims and dispossessing them of their belongings.
“During his arrest, other related items were recovered from his possession. Investigation is ongoing, and the suspect will be charged to court upon conclusion of the investigation”, DSP Chinaka said.
She urged the members of the Abia public to report any such security concerns to the nearest police station or through the command’s emergency hotlines.
