Operatives of the Edo State police command have arrested a 21-year old man, Ononomeh Badamasi for allegedly killing a 52-year old man, Orumidayo Awolowo during a fight.
The deceased was said to have demanded payment of money owed him by the suspect in Ogbeh Community in Igara, Akoko-Edo local government area of Edo State when the incident occurred.
Spokesperson of the Edo State Police Command, SP Chidi Nwabuzor, said the suspect was arrested by the Igarra police division following a complaint from the brother of the deceased, one Obafemi Awolowo.
He said Awolowo reported to police that the suspect bought a knife from the deceased and failed to pay the money and that the deceased demanded for the money when the incident happened.
“The suspect and the deceased engaged in fighting over non payment for a knife he purchased from the deceased at Ogbeh Community and in the process Orumidayo fell down and died”, Nwabuzor said.
He disclosed that police stormed the scene and discovered that three houses and one motorcycle were set ablaze by angry youths as a result of the incident.
He also disclosed that the suspect has been arrested and has confessed to the crime, adding that the deceased’s corpse was taken to Igarra General Hospital Mortuary for autopsy.
Nwabuzor further stated that investigation has commenced on the matter and that the suspect would be charged to court soon.
