The Nigeria Police in Kano, Saturday confirmed the arrest of scores of political thugs during the rerun elections in Kunchi/Tsanyawa Constituency in the state.
Kano State Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Usaini Gumel disclosed this during an interview with the media, adding that the thugs were arrested with arms and dangerous weapons.
In his Words, “We saw a truck that is faulty by the road side. We saw people in large number by the roadside. At first, they gave us the impression that it was the fuel of the vehicle that got finished. But upon close observation, we saw them in possession of arms.
“One Abdulrazaq Muhammad aka Mai Salati, from Kano Municipal told us one Gwarmai who is contesting in the area invited them over.
“We will get the Gwarmai to know if he aas truly a candidate contesting and why did he invite them to the area.
“We suspect they are in the bush to lay ambush on the electoral officers while on their way with the election results,” Gumel said.
In the meantime, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has suspended the rerun elections in the same Constituency
The elections were suspended in all 10 polling units in Kunchi Local Government Area due to invasion and disruption of the elections by these thugs.
According to a statement signed by Sam Sam Olumekun, National Commissioner and Chairmen, Information and Education Committee of INEC, further action regarding the suspended polls would be announced after the vommissions meeting on Monday. End
