A mild drama played out on Saturday about 11a.m when policemen apparently acting on a tip off from aggrieved electorate apprehended two men in possession of canes allegedly being used to chase away voters believed to be supporters of the opposition.

The arrest had restored normalcy in the area until few minutes later when the same thugs reappeared at Okeyinmi roundabout in Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State capital, which is some metres away from the spot where they were picked up.

One of the aggrieved voters, who identified herself as Mrs. Saliu, said: “It was a scene of show up by the policemen as the thugs were immediately released. Shortly after they were whisked away, they were seen at Okeyinmi again. Some of the voters called on the officers to come to their aid after receiving threats from the individuals who identified themselves as APC thugs,” she said.

In another development, thugs disrupted voting by beating the electorate in Ward 5, Unit 16 area of Ado Ekiti.

An eye witness, who identified himself as Jide Best, told Sunday Sun that officers of the Civil Defence could not arrest the thugs.

Commenting on the development, Chairman of the Buhari/Osinbajo campaign council in Ekiti, Olusegun Osinkolu said: “It is strange that thugs are beating people not to vote. I want to believe that couldn’t have happened. Those thugs aren’t working for the APC,” he said.
