A 35-year-old hunter, Waheed Rasaki, has been arrested by police in Oyo over the fatal shooting of his colleague, Femi Oyedepo.
Spokesman of the state police command, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade disclosed this in a Tuesday statement.
He said Rasaki, of Oretan Ijaiye Area, Moniya, claimed to have accidentally shot his colleague around 2:00 pm on January 7 during a hunting expedition at Oretan Ijaiye Forest.
Ayanlade further disclosed that the suspect lodged a report at Moniya Division of the force at 9:20 pm same day that he mistakenly shot his colleague, who died on the spot.
“Police operatives, led by the Divisional Police Officer, promptly visited the scene, discovered the lifeless body, and arrested the suspect, who is currently in police custody,” the police statement reads in part.
Ayanlade said further investigations have commenced, noting that the case underscores the command’s prompt response to both criminal and accidental fatalities, ensuring accountability and justice.
