The Enugu State Police Command has arrested a car theft suspect and recovered two Toyota Camry vehicles reportedly stolen in Enugu and Abuja.
Police operatives attached to the Commissioner of Police Monitoring Unit (CMU) and the Crack Tactical Squad, in the early hours of December 12, 2025, swiftly responded to a distress alert circulated through the Command’s Control Room on an alleged robbery and vehicle snatching, along Aria Road, Enugu.
According to Enugu state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Daniel Ndukwe, the suspects abandoned a Toyota Camry 2.4L vehicle while attempting to escape after being trailed by the operatives.
“After intense trailing, the criminal elements abandoned the car, which was subsequently recovered, and fled into the surrounding forest.A manhunt is still ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects.”
In a related operation, operatives of the Command’s Crack Tactical Squad, working in synergy with personnel of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), arrested a male suspect on December 11, 2025, at about 3:30 pm., and recovered an ash-coloured Toyota Camry 2.4L.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the vehicle was earlier reported stolen from Kubwa, Abuja, on July 2025. The vehicle’s owner was contacted and subsequently confirmed ownership.
“The suspect and the recovered vehicle have been transferred to the Force Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Abuja, for conclusive investigation,” the police spokesperson disclosed.
Commending the operatives for their professionalism and collaboration, the Commissioner of Police, Mamman Giwa, praised the joint efforts that led to the successes.
He reassured residents of the Command’s resolve to sustain the fight against crime, especially during the festive season.
“The Enugu state police command remains unwavering in its commitment to combating crime and ensuring the safety of lives and property,” CP Giwa said, urging members of the public to “continue to cooperate with the Police by promptly reporting suspicious activities.”
The command has maintained that its intensified patrols and intelligence-led operations would continue across the state throughout the Yuletide and beyond to keep criminal elements at bay.
