Police arrest 17 suspected kidnappers, robbers in Jigawa

Jigawa State Police Command has arrested 17 suspected armed robbers, kidnappers and cattle thieves. Commissioner of Police, Haruna Alaba, said: “I have charged officers and operatives to rise to the task and flush criminals out of the state. We have put in place robust security measures in commitment to proactive policing.

“Our officers remain committed to pursuing justice with diligence and integrity. The command’s tactical and specialised units are on heightened alert, with sustained surveillance and raids ongoing in identified black spots and flashpoints.

“The command is implementing community policing and applying professionalism when operatives are carrying out their duties. I have advised them on discipline, professionalism and integrity as core values every officer must uphold.

“Insubordination will not be tolerated under my leadership. We are emboldened by the leadership of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu. He has repeatedly expressed his stance on professionalism, discipline, respect for the rights and dignity of citizens, public trust and enthroning a people-centred policing.

“The command remains committed to professionalism, respect for human rights, and adherence to the rule of law in all its operations.

“Operatives raided hideouts of the criminals in Dutse and arrested seven suspected armed robbers, and recovered some dangerous weapons from them.”

“Police arrested four suspected armed robbers, who hail from Marke village in Kaugama LGA. This led to the recovery of a fabricated AK-47 rifle, three motorcycles, six sheep and other items.

“Two suspects were arrested for planning to kidnap residents of Jamaare in neighbouring Bauchi State.  Meanwhile, operatives arrested two suspected sheep thieves, while four stolen sheep and a Bajaj motorcycle were recovered. Police arrested suspected cattle rustlers in Taura LG with additional stolen livestock.

“I visited the emirs and reinforced security collaboration between the police, traditional institutions and all the stakeholders to ensure a safer state. We are pleading for providing intelligence and cooperation to all security agencies.

“I have warned officers to shun corruption, extortion and illegal duty. They should have a good relationship with the public and respect the fundamental human rights of the citizens.”
