Chairman of the Alumni association of the University of Jos, Gad Peter Shamaki, has condemned protests by various women groups in Jos for and against the Governor of the state, Caleb Mutfwang, joining the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Two separate women groups had, on Tuesday, staged protests in Jos, with one group urging Mutfwang to join APC and the other warning him against such a prospect.
But Shamaki advised them that instead of channelling such energies to such insanities, they should channel them to campaigning for the right of women participating in politics, especially as the call for reservation of special seats in the state and national legislative assemblies
In a statement in Jos, entitled, :Beyond the Protests: A Call for Meaningful Women’s Participation in Politics’, Shamaki said if the Presidency and the APC truly want the governor of Plateau State to join the party, and if the Governor himself also genuinely wants to join, then no amount of protest for or against it will stop the decision.
He said, “What worries and disappoints me more is the protest carried out by two groups of women yesterday 25th November especially at a time when the world is focusing on the challenges women face and promoting safe spaces for them, while also encouraging everyone to “Unite to End Digital Violence against All Women and Girls.”

“Sadly, many of the women who took part in these protests are usually not seen or heard when important party decisions are being made. Their opinions rarely count as they are often sidelined by the men and party leadership.
“Instead of protesting in support or against or what is totally out of their control, these women should focus their energy on demanding and promoting peace, development, and stability and pushing for greater participation of women in key decision-making roles.
“They should also concentrate on ensuring quality education for their children and grandchildren who are stuck at home due to insecurity and plan for a joyful Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
“For those of us who understand society, history, politics and power dynamics, we can already predict the likely outcome of this unnecessary social media distraction.
