Ahead of today’s governorship primary election of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Plateau State, a frontline aspirant, Sunday Garba Biggs, has announced his withdrawal from the race.

Biggs, in a statement on Sunday that he personally signed, said he decided after extensive consultations with his family, political associates, supporters, and key stakeholders across the state.

In the letter addressed to the chairman of the party in the state, Biggs said that while his aspiration was hinged on a sincere commitment to provide purposeful leadership and contribute meaningfully to the development, peace and prosperity of Plateau State, prevailing circumstances and the overriding interest of party unity, harmony and collective progress had informed his decision to step aside from the primary election.

The convener, BiggThingsComing2027 Movement, said in the letter, “I write to formally convey my decision to withdraw from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial primary election for Plateau State slated for Sunday, 24th May 2026.

“This decision follows extensive consultations with my family, political associates, supporters and key stakeholders across the state.

“While my aspiration is inspired by a sincere commitment to provide purposeful leadership and contribute meaningfully to the development, peace and prosperity of Plateau State, prevailing circumstances and the overriding interest of party unity, harmony and collective progress have informed my decision to step aside from the primary election.

“I remain profoundly grateful to the leadership and members of our great party, particularly my supporters and well-wishers across the state, whose encouragement, sacrifices and steadfast belief in my vision have been truly humbling.”

He said that his withdrawal should not be interpreted as a retreat from the shared ideals and aspirations of the party but reflected his abiding commitment to the unity, stability and electoral success of the PDP and the advancement of Plateau State.

“Accordingly, I respectfully request that my name be withdrawn from all activities and processes relating to the PDP gubernatorial primary election billed for Sunday, 24th May 2026,” the letter concluded.
