…Plateau lawmakers back Wase

House of Reps call for disarming unlicensed gun owners nationwide

From Gyang Bere, Jos

Former members of the National Assembly from Plateau State and former Speakers of the state House of Assembly have aligned with the aspiration of Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives, Ahmed Idris Wase for the position of Speaker of the House.

At a press conference at the weekend, addressed by Senator Timothy Adudu alongside other former lawmakers from Plateau state, the group said Wase was the man who the cap fits for the job.

“Without prejudice to what the party will finally decide by way of zoning of the leadership positions of both chambers, as former members of the NASS and Speakers of the State Assembly we do think we have an insight as to what leadership of a legislative affair entails and the quality of persons who are qualified to hold such a position. We therefore find it incumbent on us to lend our voices to the ongoing search for a Speaker for the House of Representatives.

“You may also be aware that so far from Plateau State, two of our sons have shown interest in contesting this coveted seat. To us, this is a welcome development as it goes to show that indeed Plateau State possesses very qualified persons, who if given the opportunity, can steer the affairs of the Green Chamber. However, given that the race is not confined to Plateau State alone, it will not be a wise decision to go into this contest with two contestants from the same state.

“In going into a contest of this nature that is very competitive, one has to go with its very best so as to compete with other very best. Given this scenario therefore, by our own estimation, our very best is Ahmed Idris Wase (popularly known as Maje in Plateau State) the current Deputy Speaker of the House.  We believe Wase has the requisite credentials that can compete favorably with any member from around the country.”
